Thailand Showcase turned Potters Field Park into three days of Thai culture, food, and craft, set against the backdrop of Tower Bridge. Here's what made it worth attending, and the two addresses to visit now that the festival has packed up.

The festival

It takes real ambition to recreate a country's culture inside a single London park. Last weekend, the Royal Thai Embassy did exactly that. On July 18 and 19, Potters Field Park, with Tower Bridge as the backdrop, became home to Thailand Showcase, a festival built entirely around Thai food, craftsmanship, and performance.

The scale was genuinely impressive. Food stalls served authentic dishes, a curated marketplace offered textiles and goods worth stopping for, and live muay thai demonstrations pulled in crowds who briefly forgot they were still in Zone 1. Everything about it felt considered. And all of it was free.

That's what set this apart from your average cultural pop-up: the precision. Nothing here felt like an approximation. From the vendors chosen to the way the whole weekend was paced, Thailand Showcase felt less like a festival and more like the embassy quietly showing London what Thai culture actually looks like.

Our recommendations

Imm Aroy deserves a special mention for its mango sticky rice, easily one of the most talked-about dishes of the weekend. The best part: you don't have to wait a year for it. They have a permanent home in Chinatown, and it remains one of the best versions of the dish in London.

Then there's Monkey & Me, near Baker Street, a Thai restaurant that gets the balance right. Genuinely authentic cooking, a beautifully designed space, and prices that feel fair by London standards. Our order, always: the monkey rolls.

What made Thailand Showcase stand out wasn't just its scale or the free entry, it was the care behind translating an entire culture for a London audience without losing what makes it real. That's the same quality we look for wherever we go, whether it's a hotel in Jakarta or a restaurant in Bangkok: curation that respects the place it comes from.
