Redesigned and rebranded by A Work of Substance, the hotel draws its visual language from Hong Kong's maritime heritage and the industrial era of the 1970s, with the Star Ferry as its central reference point. Having connected people across the harbour for over a century, the Star Ferry became the foundation for every design detail, including the custom-designed furniture and lighting. The result is not nostalgia as decoration. It is nostalgia with a point of view.

Wan Chai, Understood

Wan Chai resists easy reading, part business district, part nightlife institution, part old-school local pocket, and entirely itself. 

The Fleming belongs here. Close enough to the Convention Centre to be practical, but far enough in spirit to feel like a genuine base in the city.

It works for the business traveller who wants efficiency, and equally for the guest who would rather stay somewhere with a story than somewhere with an infinity pool. The Fleming is not trying to be Hong Kong's grandest hotel. It is trying to be one of its most attuned.

The Star Ferry, Reimagined

The palette, carmine reds, bottle greens, deep steel blues, calls to mind chic travel at sea.

Nautical references appear throughout, but they are controlled. Curved banquettes, glossy finishes, warm lighting, polished brass on everything from the light switches to the air-conditioning pads. Desk chairs recall the dual-direction seats found on the cross-harbour boat.

Design with enough wit to be memorable, and enough restraint to still feel grown-up.

The rooms carry the same maritime language, more quietly. Deep green accents, brass details, warm wood, proper work desks, most corners are rounded, an absence of hard angles that creates a feeling of secure envelopment. Categories run from Small to Extra Large across 66 rooms, but the mood stays consistent throughout: urban, polished, tied to the city outside.

Even the bathroom amenities were conceived specifically for the hotel, the Shen Nong range, developed with a perfumer over more than a year, draws on the principles of traditional chinese medicine to awaken a sense of the city through scent.

On the Ground Floor

Osteria Marzia is a celebration of the ocean's bounty, taking its cues from the diverse cuisine of Italy's scenic seaside regions, from Campania and Amalfi to Puglia and Southern Sicily. Citrus-laced crudos, handmade pastas with maritime flavours, whole fish prepared with techniques passed through generations. At the centre of the room: a raw seafood counter displaying the fresh catch of the day, complemented by a cellar composed primarily of Southern Italian wines, the first of its kind in Hong Kong.
